[Home] [Outback Cooler] [Availability] [Specifications] [Images] [Darks] [Instructions] [Feedback] [Order] |
The Outback Cooler uses a Peltier device to pump heat from the DSI imaging chip to the rear mounted heat sink. This enables the Outback to reduce the temperature of the CCD below the ambient temperature and subsequently significantly reduce the noise level in the images. The Outback regulates the temperature of the CCD so that it remains constant at the preset value through out the imaging session. In this way only one set of dark frames needs to be taken for the session.
There are now three versions of the Outback Cooler in two series. Outback (for DSI I and II) and Outback III (for the DSI III)
Razorback |
Fan cooled heat sink |
Platypus |
Water cooled heat exchange |
Dingo |
Uses either water or air cooling (User selectable) |
The Outback Cooler replaces the factory convection heat sink built into the DSI/DSI Pro and DSI II/DSI II Pro rear case and the Outback III for the DSI III/DSI III Pro. Both Outback and Outback III give similar performance. You will need to open the DSI case and fit the Outback Cooler to the front section of the DSI camera via the same four mounting bolts. This obviously has warrantee implications for you DSI camera and you are taking full responsibility for the modification and continued function of your DSI camera. The DSI camera functionality, circuit board or USB interface are not changed in anyway. The outback simply replaces the rear case of the DSI camera and runs off a separate 12V power supply. All control of the Outback is via the single button and indicator LEDS shown below:
The Outback Cooler operating range to achieve a regulated CCD temperature is indicated below:
Power Supply |
Requires a 12V 3 Amps supply (Cable supplied will
car lighter plug) |
Cooling Capability |
Cools CCD to 15 Deg C below ambient maximum. |
